With temperatures starting to rise, the Jumeirah Golf Estates members were out in full force to challenge for the April Monthly Medal honours over the Fire course on a sun drenched day in the United Arab Emirates.
Brian McCarthy produced a sterling performance to card a one over par gross 73 and claim the best gross award. McCarthy’s consistent front nine of 37 was complemented with a back nine score of 36 following a superb birdie, birdie, birdie finish over the last 3 holes. Lifting the nett crown was Haiyan Mujarkech after carding a scintillating three under par 69 nett. Mujarkech the ever consistent performer, closed with a card that contained 6 gross pars and birdie at the par 5, 7th hole. Had it not been for a bit of misfortune on the par 5, 5th and 18th holes, Mujarkech’s score could have been in the mid 60’s. Runner-up in the nett division was Chris Wilmot with a nett 74 following a back nine card countback victory over Sean Drury.
The days on course challenges were won by Brain McCarthy and Zach Drury. Brian McCarthy powered his drive to within 100 yards of the 9th green on the Fire course to claim the longest drive award and Zach Drury hit an inch perfect tee shot to the tricky water flanked par 3, 14th green to win the nearest to the pin prize.
