Mmutle and Neilson triumph in Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club Octobers Medal

South African golfer Simon Mmutle and partner Scottish William Neilson teamed up for the first time ever to clinch the October edition of the BMW Members & Guests Social played on Saturday 5th October.

Playing in the afternoon’s shotgun the pair already faced an uphill task with a net 64 having already been returned in the morning. However an outstanding back 9 of 6 under net 30 with an eagle and four birdies thrown in for good measure enabled them to come home with a net 63.6, winning the day’s event by the smallest of margins. What was all the more impressive was that Mmutle who is set to finish his time in the U.A.E in December playing in his last ever BMW competition played in both the morning and afternoon shotguns, the first person to ever do so, instead of working adversely he kept his fitness levels up and helped Neilson to the days title.

The other prizes for the morning’s shotgun went to Mark Dupree & Ian Plant who were the duo who set the benchmark by posting that net 64, they claimed the mornings overall winners vouchers. Hanief Sallie & Simon Mmutle took the front 9 Texas Scramble format with Abdul Latif & Adi Husaini combining to clinch the back 9 better ball format. Latif & Husaini just piping the talented father and son partnership of Mohammad Bin Idris and Zubair Bin Firdaus for the first time. Two Englishmen took the mornings other additional prizes with Rory Thomson and Ian Plant winning the Nearest The Pin and Longest Drive awards respectively.

The afternoon’s winners were of course Mmutle & Neilson with scratch team combo of Mick Conneely & John Gould winning the Texas Scramble with a net 31.7, by far the best front 9 of the whole day. Work colleagues Ove Pedersen & Tony Beaumont were sharpest over the back 9 better ball as they fired home a 5 under net 31. Pedersen also claimed an additional Nearest The Pin with David McReady launching his drive the furthest to win the Longest Drive award.
