Mills and Lawson Crowned in Dubai Duty Free Seniors

John Mills (ARGC) and Ivan Lawson (EGF) were crowned Overall Champions in their respective Stableford and Gross Divisions at Arabian Ranches Golf Club on Saturday, 4th September. Eighty Three players competed in the 13th Dubai Duty Free Seniors Cup, this event was open to Men, 50 years and above and Ladies, 45 years and above on the tournament day.

Each player used their handicap index as the Tournament allowance to be used at the appropriate stroke index holes.

The card of John Mills playing off a handicap of +1 was one of the most impressive to date around the challenging layout, with 6 gross birdies and only 1 bogey on the card, Mills took the course apart to post the winning total of 40 Stableford points. Most of the Champions scoring was done on the front nine where he had 21 points followed by an inward half of 19 points. Mills won by 1 point from eventual Ladies Champion Fortuna Dougherty on 39 points.

 
Ivan Lawson playing alongside Mills was awarded the best gross prize when he posted 73. Both Lawson and Mills took full advantage of the blue course layout under hot and humid conditions.

In the Ladies Division home player Fortuna Dougherty (ARGC) returned a well balanced card of 39 and managed to score no worse than 1 point on any given hole.  Dougherty won by two shots from Jane Bruce-Smith.

Francois Wolfaardt – ARGC thanked Colm McLoughlin the Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free and his team for their assistance as well as the 83 players from all over the UAE for attending.
