McCarthy reigns Victorious in the Jumeirah Golf Estates 2012 Mens Amateur Open

Brian McCarthy of Jumeirah Golf Estates recorded a gross 72 over the Earth course to accompany his first round score of 77 to win the 2012 Jumeirah Golf Estates Mens Amateur Open sponsored by BMW AGMC over the final weekend in March at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai.

McCarthy, playing off a plus one handicap, stood in fifth place after Friday’s first round played over the Fire course, five shots behind leader Michael Harradine of Jebel Ali Golf Resort.

McCarthy’s outward nine of 38 in the final round helped close the gap on the round one leader Harradine who went out in 40 shots. As Harradine uncharacteristically struggled in round two McCarthy took the ascendency with a two under par back nine of 34 strokes.

A nail biting finish saw Max Burrow of Arabian Ranches and Bilbo Perrot of Jumeirah Golf Estates play themselves into a chance of claiming the title. With Perrot dropping vital shots at holes 16 and 18, the door was left open for Burrow and McCarthy to lay their mark. With McCarthy making his par putt on his 18th hole and playing partner Burrow having to settle for a bogey the title was decided. McCarthy became the 2012 Jumeirah Golf Estates Mens Open Champion with a total of 149, as Burrow finished second and Perrot third both with totals of 150.

In the Nett Division Jehanzeb Awan of Jumeirah Golf Estates took the overall title with rounds of 77 and 68. Stuart McMurdo of Jebel Ali Golf Resort scored 148 to finish as the nett runner-up, with John Baker of the Emirates Golf Federation claiming third with a two round total of 154.
