Matjaz First Past the Pust at Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa

Matjaz Pust and his team of Alan Drysdale, Keith Rayson and Joel Marantan won the season opening June Summer Swing tournament at the Resort course. With the England & France game later that night the golf management linked the tournament around the Euro 2012 theme. Each 4 man team had to decide on a Goalie, Defender, Midfielder and Striker. Each hole had a mystery symbol which allowed a certain player or number of players to earn double points on that hole depending on which football position they were. With some excellent play, Matjaz and his team scored 80 points, a clear 8 points ahead of Mick Rosario, David Brady, Carl Reilly & Craig Rooney (no relation to Wayne) in second place.  In third were Phil Herson, Alisdair Herson, Simon Fowler and Dee Fowler on 70 points. Alan Drysdale continued to earn more plaudits for his Nearest to the Pin triumph on Hole #8 while Peter Mcginley won the Longest Drive on the Par 5 first hole. After a fun filled afternoon’s golf the players relaxed and enjoyed a meal and the Euro 2012 opener for France and England. Next month will see a similar event in conjunction with the London Olympics.

Jebel Ali Golf Course, based at the award winning Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa has previously hosted top legendary players including Tiger Woods and Ernie Els. The 9-hole, par 36, championship standard course is situated within the idyllic grounds of the resort. Designed by Peter Harradine and opened in 1998, each hole is uniquely landscaped with exotic trees, shrubs and original desert flora and also features a saltwater lake which comes into play on five holes. The wooden gazebos, views of the Arabian Gulf and peacocks which freely roam the fairways have added a special charm to this course that is a fair and exciting challenge for golfers of all abilities.
