Mark McCarthy and his partner Ray Downes win Carpetland Open at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club

The November Carpetland Monthly Open was played today at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.  Eighty Eight players from all over the UAE and further afield battled it out in stunning weather conditions over the beautiful creek-side course.

Their main objective was to finish in the top 4 and qualify for the prestigious Grand Final at the end of the season.  As always in the Carpetland Open it was a Pairs competition with the format on this occasion being Better Ball Nett Strokeplay.

Unlike the October event, this month’s competition produced an outright winning pair.  The team of Creek member Mark McCarthy and his partner Ray Downes scored a superb six-under par 65.  Downes commented after the game; “Mark just played fantastic!”  It was the first time that Mark and Ray had met one another and we’ll certainly see them as partners a lot more in the future.

Winning the runner-up spot with a better last six holes was the Creek father and son team of John and Rayhan Thomas.  They edged into the third place spot the team of Carpetland’s Mansour Khodjasteh and UAE National Mohammad Al Musharrekh.  Clinching the final qualifying spot on the count-back over the last six holes were Stephen Barker and Stephen Fidler with 67.
