Manassero inspires ‘golfers of the future’ in Abu Dhabi clinics

Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority’s Ambassador passes on tips to youngsters

Matteo Manassero, the first teenager in history to record three European Tour titles, has inspired the “golfers of the future” at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. Manassero, who has just renewed his role as Global Golf Ambassador for Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), met with over 30 youngsters, taking them through a warm-up session with a demonstration of his skills with a seven iron.

Manassero said: “It’s very nice to be here with the kids today.  I was their age not long ago, and I wish I had the opportunity to watch a professional golfer play and explain things.  It’s a responsibility for me now, and a good one. These are the golfers of the future.”

One of the most important things for young kids, says Manassero, is to “play lots of sport.  You need a quick and powerful physique for golf, so sports where you run and move quickly will help you build your physique.”

“I would say to any young golfer just starting in the sport that patience is the most important thing.  Golf requires a lot of commitment and a lot of effort. But for any young kid who has a passion for it – that will carry them through.”

Keshav, nine years old from Al Ain, took part in the clinic and said he was “really inspired” by Manassero. “I think it was great of him to come here today to spend time with us,” he said.

The clinic was open to all children on day two of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. Compeering the event was Danny Jakobowski, Director of Instruction at Abu Dhabi Golf Club. Jakobowski commented: “It’s always great to have Matteo here as someone who is closer to the kids’ age group.  He has a great way with them and they always respond well to him.”
