Majrekar wins Jumeirah Golf Estates Yas Links Cup 2013 grand final
Yas Links was the venue and final course to challenge the participants of this inaugural Stableford series event with top day prizes and overall placings to be decided on the windswept links over Yas Island.
JGE member John Parsons will be wondering whether a change from inland courses to the hallowed turf of links suits his game better as previously John had failed to break the thirty point barrier in both rounds one and two, however a change of scenery did no harm what so ever as a Grand Final tally of 32 Stableford points gave John his best score of the tournament and the Grand Final prize winner. Finishing in second place only after a card playoff over the inward nine holes, again on 32 points was round two winner, Graeme Doy.
After a slow start in the series Graeme certainly found his game by posting a 1st and 2nd place finish over what many golfers said were the hardest of the three courses, that of the Earth course and Yas Links. A point back finishing in third place was Yas Links member Gary Tang. Local knowledge certainly assisted Gary to finish in the prizes and he was certainly happy with his Grand Final effort of 31 Stableford points.
Paul Schwartz was the most nervous competitor in the Grand Final field as he took a two point lead over fellow JGE member, Martin Fernandez whilst closely followed by a trio of members on 60 Stableford points for the first two rounds. A Grand Final round effort of 31 Stableford points over Yas Links from tournament leader Paul, would normally have secured his starting position and been crowned JGE – Yas Links Cup 2013 champion, however a fantastic round of 37 Stableford points, the highest points total recorded throughout the series event was recorded by Shankar Majrekar. Entering the Grand Final in third position, his 37 points combined with his round one and round two points total gave Shankar a 54 hole Stableford points total of 97 and awarded Shankar a 3 point victory and overall JGE – Yas Links Cup 2013 champion. Finishing in third place was the ever steady, Tania Gelasini. Her three round total of 89 points was a great achievement and illustrated her overall consistent golf game throughout the event.
