Lightning Finish Sees Lori Take Open Stableford at Al Hamra Golf Club

Lori Handsel produced one of the best back nine scores ever to win the penultimate Open Stableford by one point.

She followed up her 13 points on the front nine with an unbelievable 25, yes 25 points on the back nine which included 2 net eagles and 2 net birdies for her winning total of 38 points. This was just enough to see her snatch the title from Andy Spavin and PJ Marriott who were both clubhouse leaders at the time on 37 points. The only consolation prize for Andy and PJ is that they would still take podium finishes, although a card play-off would be required in order to decide who would take which. After both having under par front nines Andy’s back nine score of 17 points was enough to beat PJ’s 16 points and see him pushed back into third. The two special events on the day were picked up by Jake Maki-Petaja on hole 4 and Fred Watts on hole 11.
