Lady Captain Pauline’s Farewell at Al Ghazal Golf Club

This last Friday at the Al Ghazal Golf Club saw the celebration of Lady Captain Pauline’s end of season bash!

The fun event was split in to two shotguns one at 7.30am for the early birds and one at 2.00pm for the night owls!  The competition format was a Texas Scramble with a slight twist, rather than follow the usual format, each team were issued with a Dice to use on each tee.  Once all players tee off a large dice is thrown to decide whose shot is taken, if a 5 or 6 is thrown then the team of 4 can decide the best shot.  It’s all down to chance and a little luck, but without a doubt everyone enjoyed the experience and to thank a certain Arabian Ranches resident for coming up with the idea!

The leading team in the early birds shotgun were Bernie Blanchard, Peter Comber and Charlie Anderson on 62.3 with Dennis Cox, Chaya Kinder, Anton Dekker and Geovanni close behind on 63.8.

The afternoon’s night owls had to contend with a little more wind; however this did not prevent a sub 60 round by Bob Malone, Abdul Rahman, Johann and Jan Friedmann with 59.5 to take the honours from Mark Hayman, Asaad, Chris De Beaufort and Richard Wrigley with a superb round of 61.6.

As is with Captain’s Days, the Captain is obligated to give out some other fun prizes and Pauline’s Day was no exception.  There was a nearest the pin on hole No. 3 with a trick club for Herman Groenewald and two booby prizes one for Richard Whiteside for being Richard Whiteside and one to Vice Captain Juma Mussa in preparation for taking over as Captain in September – both were awarded the ‘Wooden Spoon’!

Next Thursday evening will see the presentation of the Seasons top honours along at the Al Ghazal Golf Club’s Annual Dinner Dance Black Tie event.
