Kegs Society annual Scorpio Golf Summer Open at Al Hamra Golf Club
One of the UAE’s longest established golfing groups – the Dubai-based KEGS Golf Society – braved the summer heat and travelled to Ras Al Khaimah in mid June for their annual SCORPIO GOLF Summer Open.
Traditionally an all male Golf Society playing their regular Tuesday evening games at Emirates Golf Club the
KEGS opened up this SCORPIO GOLF sponsored event to guests including Ladies on the Peter Harradine designed
Par 72 Al Hamra Championship golf course in RAK
Format for the day was Stableford using full course handicap with competitors divided into various categories
including KEGS Low ( 1 to 12 ) and High ( 13 to 28 ) handicap players, Guests and Ladies
In the KEGS section the overall Gross winner with a stunning score of 79 off a 9 handicap was recent new KEGS
member RYAN GLENN who hit his best ever score in the UAE.
Low Handicap winner was ANDREW COOK WITH 29 points, runner up BRETT KRAETZER with 28 points
High Handicap winner was new member IAN CLYDESDALE – 33points, runner-up ANDREW BANNISTER 32points
GUEST section was won by JOHN HOOD who had the round of his life and came in with 42points, and at the prize presentation vowed to change his first name to ROBIN ! runners-up were 2nd MOHAMED DARWISH – 39points,
3rd-TONY JOHNSON-36, 4th- STEVE RAYMENT 34points
In the LADIES category there was a scorecard count back on 34 points with SUSAN BARRON taking first place ahead of TANIA GELASANI.
There was a good selection of special challenges open to ALL players
NEAR PIN prizes went to TREVOR JACKSON, GERRY McELNEY, FRED WATTS, and GREG HALL.
LONGEST DRIVE prizes were won by DIANA BROWN and NICK CHITTENDEN
STRAIGHTEST DRIVE – TERRI STEWART, NEAREST FAIRWAY FLAG – DAVE FAULKNER
and NEAR PIN IN 2 SHOTS – MIKE DUNN
One of the endearing features of any KEGS event is the fun element of their Golf days which for this SCORPIO
GOLF SUMMER OPEN was also the case. There were special “ KEGS PINKIE” prizes for the golfers in each category
getting ‘best value for their green fee’ ( ie most golf ) won by NICK BRUWER and PHILIPP BAUMGARTNER and for
those players who could not keep their ball out of the water, a specially created SCORPIO GOLF prize was awarded jointly to ERIC SCHULTZ and IAN MIDGLEY for most balls lost – 17.
