Joy for Roy and Choi at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club Tech Access International Pairs UAE Qualifier
Roy Holmes and JW Choi had never met each other let alone played as partners before the Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club Qualifying event for the 2010-11 Tech Access International Pairs UAE Presented by Cadillac but it emerged as an unbeatable combination as they secured a place in the inaugural International Pairs UAE National Final at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club in May. Despite the fact that Holmes had to play the first hole solo, the duo ran out winners by a solitary point from Normita Demesa and Golden Kim. This was thanks mainly to a stunning back-9 of 23 points, which gave them a 42-point total. Four net birdies and a net eagle in seven holes from the 9th were the highlight of Holmes and Choi’s round and they will be looking to maintain that form in the National Final where they will have a chance to go on and represent the UAE in the International Pairs World Final.
Demesa and Kim got off to the perfect start as Normita made a net eagle on their opening hole and despite scoring better than par on no fewer than seven holes, ultimately they recorded too many bogeys and came up just short. Their back-9 was good enough to win a scorecard countback from TS Char & JS Park, who finished third. Nearest-the-Pin prizes were collected by Normita Demesa and Roy Holmes on holes 3 and 8 respectively.
This was the second and last visit to Sharjah in the 2010-11Tech Access International Pairs Series, presented by Cadillac. The next event on the schedule is at Tower Links Golf Club, Ras al Khaimah. Qualifier winners earn an invitation to the UAE National Final at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on May 27th.
This was the twelfth Qualifying event in the 2010-11 Tech Access International Pairs UAE Presented by Cadillac, which is the only Club Members’ international event in the UAE. Roy Holmes and JW Choi join representatives from Arabian Ranches Golf Club, Abu Dhabi City Golf Club, Abu Dhabi Golf Club, The Montgomerie Dubai, Al Ghazal Golf Club, Jumeirah Golf Estates, The Els Club, Emirates Golf Club, Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club, Yas Links and Al Hamra Golf Clubwhose names are already in the National Final draw.
