JDP Session 2 Grading and Tournament Day at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club

Over 70 junior golfers turned out over the weekend of Friday/Saturday 8th & 9th March for the end of session Grading and Tournament Days at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club sponsored by Petrofac and Spectrum.

With all juniors pushing hard to improve on their colored grading cap there was some fantastic shot making displayed during the Grading morning. Juniors were tested for 2 hours over the following areas, Iron Play, Woods, Pitching, Chipping, Putting, Athletic Fitness & Golf Knowledge.

A special acknowledgement goes out to Alex Beisenwenger who after keeping his nerve during all of the testing stations managed to become the first SGSC junior golfer to be awarded the Red One Star Cap, which is the 7th cap along in the TPI themed grading system.
Golf Professionals Ben Derbyshire, Joe Marshall and Steve Chambers were delighted to see that over 50% of the juniors taking part managed to improve on their colored cap grading from the previous session, thus going to show all the hard work during the lessons was beginning to pay off.

The Saturday’s Tournament was once again split into three segments based on age/ability. After some fabulous golf it was local Emirati golfer Mansour Kashwani who scooped the top prize in the Youngsters tournament, beating off 8 of his young counterparts.

The Academy Courses 5 hole tournament winners were Frazer Hall (9 Years & Older) and Maxwell Hill (8 Years & Under). Both posted rounds of 20 strokes over the 5 Par 3 holes set-up to test the juniors.
The elder and more experienced juniors had to wait until the evening to get their turn and over 30 juniors were out in force to try and lay their hands on the winning trophy played over 4 holes on the Championship Course. With 4 different teeing grounds staggered based on the golfers driving distances the competition was to be as fair as possible. It was Welsh whiz kid Max Hibbert who held his nerve with some impressive short game shots to take the win posting a round of 21. German youngsters Alex Beisenwenger was the unlucky golfer as he matched Hibbert but was beaten on a scorecard countback, however he picked up the runners-up trophy and completed a very successful weekend. Australian all round sportsgirl Genevieve Hall finished in third spot with Dominic Manning  picking up the 4th place for the 2nd consecutive session. The three golf professionals were absolutely delighted to see the standard of play in the evening and are now looking forward to assisting the juniors heading towards session 3.

A final round of thanks must be given to both Petrofac and Spectrum who both very kindly sponsor the JDP Progamme, their input is invaluable in terms of making the programme as successful as it has become.
