Jamie Moul hoping to make amends with his second National Bank of Oman Golf Classic appearance

England’s Jamie Moul has been given the opportunity to right the wrongs of last year after accepting an invitation to this year’s National Bank of Oman Golf Classic.

Moul, who was cheered on all the way by his father and sister-in-law who both teach at the nearby British School Muscat, was well-positioned after rounds of 72, 69, 71 but fell down the leaderboard into a share of 28th place after closing with a 77.

“Obviously last year was a disappointing way to finish but the event was a great success and the standard of golf was so good,” said Moul. “I have spent some time practicing during the winter at Almouj Golf over the last few years so I know the venue well – I’m thankful for the opportunity to play again and I hope for a strong finish this year.
“My form has been getting better as the year has gone on. I made a slow start but as the Challenge Tour season has progressed I feel I’ve started playing better.

“My dad has been teaching in Oman for five years and my sister for just over a year and I visit Oman a couple of times each year – either for a couple of weeks in the winter or to drop in on the family before I go to a tournament in the Middle East or Far East or to Africa.”

Moul had an exceptional amateur career which included victories in the 2006 Lytham Trophy, the 2007 Brabazon Trophy and representing Great Britain & Ireland in their narrow defeat to the USA in the 2007 Walker Cup at Royal County Down. He turned professional that year and won his first Challenge Tour title at the 2011 Acaya Open which propelled him onto The European Tour for 2012.

National Bank of Oman have awarded a Sponsors invite to the “local” player for this year’s National Bank of Oman Golf Classic and he again will have the support of his father and sister-in-law who are permanently based in the sultanate.
