International Pairs UAE 2010-11 Event Results at the Arabian Ranches Golf Club
Crawford & Atkins win Tech Access 2010-11 International Pairs UAE Qualifier at Arabian Ranches Golf Club.
Sandy Crawford and Darryl Atkins claimed the first berth in the inaugural Tech Access International Pairs UAE National Final by winning the Arabian Ranches Golf Club Qualifier on Saturday 30th October.
13-handicapper Crawford and his 16-handicap partner Atkins combined perfectly on a warm and windy day to secure their passage by the narrowest of margins after they finished tied on 42 points with Ian Kelly and Denver Farrell. A solitary point separated the top two teams on the back-9 countback as the winners came home with 22 points to Kelly and Farrell’s 21.
Tech Access International Pairs UAE, which is presented by Cadillac provides members of every club in the UAE with a chance to win their club Qualifier and earn a place in the National Final, which will be played in May 2011.
With a full field vying for the coveted prize, Crawford and Atkins got off to a fast start opening with two net birdies in the better ball format but it was on the back-9 where Crawford in particular produced some excellent golf that included four net birdies and 5 net pars. Despite solid nines of 21 points, Kelly and Farrell were left to rue a some missed opportunities as they just missed out.
Completing the prizes in third place was the pairing of Kevin Barrett and Tobias Parkin who, but for two net bogeys on the 1st and 7th holes might well have challenged for top honours. Finally, ‘Nearest the Pin’ prizes were awarded to Denver Farrell and Peter Wilson whose respective efforts on the 2nd and 17th holes remained unbeaten.
