India Triumph in Kohlman Nations Cup at Emirates Golf Club

The Kohlman Nations Cup produced a fantastic afternoon of social golf over the Majlis Course. The popularity of the event has grown year by year under the guidance and leadership of future club captain Moshe Kohli.

With Mr Kohli’s enthusiasm coupled with such a strong membership the event attracted 128 players representing 13 countries including UAE, India, Canada, Ireland, England, Scotland, France, Finland, Pakistan, Slovenia, Jordan, Wales and Cyprus.

The format of the event involved four members representing their nation and the team split into pairs playing a betterball stableford. Following the round both pair’s scores were combined to form the Nations total.

In a closely fought contest the teams of India 9 and Canada both carded 80 points and had to be settled by a card count back. The India team triumphed largely due to a superb 47 point tally from Ashish Nanda and Burhan Mohammed. Achal Ghai and Vipen Sethi signed for 33 points to result in the combined tally of 80. Mike Tracey and Bryan Wilson combined superbly including a trio of birdies on the back nine to record 44 points. Rod Smith and Mark Yanchus contributed a level par 36 points resulting in the 80-point Canadian tally and runners-up position.

The next threes placings all carded 79 points with India once more well represented. The team of Pravesh Jethwani, Kavit Handa, Kish Bandopadhyay and Keith Fernandez claimed third. Finland, represented by Pentti Korjonen, Petri Pentti, Pentti Tahvanainen and Jari Kolgonen finished a respectable fourth with India 5 comprised of Sanjeev Gheewala, Tarun Khanna, Gurbax Singh and Martin Tscheiner in fifth place.

Jordan finished sixth out of the 32 teams with a 77-point tally, representing their nation admirably were Jatinder Chopra, Alan Salem, Rami Safadi and Rami Sfeila.

As tradition dictates in the Kohlman Nations Cup there are always three sponsors’ teams and this year the star golfing guest was singer Haddaway. A single figure handicapper, Haddaway teamed up well with his wife Rosi, Sandeep Singh and Viren Verma to post a winning 82 point total.

The entertainment continued throughout the evening and the prize giving ceremony was attended by the Indian Consul General Mr Sanjay Verma.
