Hurdon’s Hit Magical Number To Win 7th RAK Mixed Amateur Open at Al Hamra Golf Club

Graham and Carmen Hurdon scored a magical 50 points to win the 7th RAK Mixed Amateur Open with their nearest competitors way back on 43.

The format for the annual pairs event was a Betterball Stableford in which Graham and Carmen produced
magical nines of 26 and 24 points in a round which included 10 net birdies and 4 net eagles.

Their nearest competitors, 7 points back on 43 were the three couples of Rick and Lori Handsel, PJ and Annie Marriott, and Gregg Harris with Annie Robin. As all three pairs recorded the same score, a card play-off would be required to sort out the winners of second and third place. With the best back nine of 23 points, just beating the other two teams by one, was Gregg and Annie who did just enough to scoop second place. This unfortunately meant that a back 6 card play-off was needed to decide third place between Rick and Lori, and PJ and Annie. Rick and Lori unfortunately dropped a shot on hole 16 for a back 6 total of 14 points whilst PJ and Annie managed 3 net birdies and 3 net pars for a total of 15 points and the resulting last podium place. There was also two special events on the day which we’re picked up by Karen Mallinson for her nearest the pin effort on hole 4 and Andy Prescott who picked up the men’s nearest the pin on hole 7.
