HSBC Abu Dhabi Golf Championship kicks off in style

The eagerly awaited 2011 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship begins

After a big build up, the HSBC Abu Dhabi Golf Championship kicked off in style in the UAE capital.

There was some great Golf played today at the National Course as the season started for the European pro’s..

The event promised a lot with an excellent line up featuring current Major winners, Ryder Cup players and a certain Mr Mickelson thrown into the mix.

It has been a fascinating build up to the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship this year living here in the UAE. The Capital Emirate has been pulling out all the stops with the strongest line up in the 5 year history.

I wanted to get a closer look at Phil Mickelson for his first 9 holes after watching him play on the TV for many years. It was good to see the man in the flesh, albeit a little rusty.
Mcdowell was playing very well alongside him and they started matching each other stroke for stroke at the start.

On the course it was good to see some of the club pros’ from other UAE Golf courses. On the way around I bumped into pro’s and staff from Al Ain Shooting Equestrian & Golf Club, The Emirates Golf Club and Butch Harmon School of Golf Dubai.

It promises to be an excellent opening tournament with some great stories already arising from round one. We are really looking forward to the next rounds and after Kaymers’ solid start, he’s the one to watch.
