Hobday Becomes Junior Open Champion in Bahrain

Over 70 youngsters competed in the Royal Golf Club Junior Open which saw 16-year old Sam Hobday clinch the overall title with a gross score of 80.

Sam topped the best gross score in the under-16s age category of the tournament which features prizes sponsored by Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park. Ilya Goniker achieved the best net score of 72.

Promising Bahraini youngster Mohammed Jalal clinched the best gross score in the under-18 section of the competition while Dhari Al Borshaid achieved the best net score of 80. Players in both age categories competed over 18 holes on the club’s Montgomerie championship course.
Competitors in the under-14s section played 9 holes on the championship course. Stewart Hutchinson won a prize for best gross score with a 49 and Fahad Yacoob had the best net score of 27. The under 12s played just 6 holes of the challenging course. Nayel Al Borshaid won best gross score with 33 and Yaseen Al Falher achieved the best net score of 27.

“All the kids had a fantastic day and played very well,” commented Michael Imperial, the Royal Golf Club’s Golf Events Manager. “I would like to thank Lost Paradise for providing excellent prizes including one year Splashdown passes for the winners. Our thanks also to all the parents who volunteered to help out with scoring, marshaling and so on.”

Not be left out, youngsters in the under-10 age category played a 9 hole tournament on the club’s  Wee Monty par 3 academy course. Cheyma Le Falher won best gross score with a 47 and Fares Samahiji won best net score with 51.
Youngsters recently completing junior tuition programmes at the Royal Golf Academy were also invited to join the fun with a Junior Academy Masters 4-hole individual stroke play competition and a 3-hole Scramble organized by the Academy’s PGA Professionals. Alejandro Castellanos won the 4-hole event with a score of 18 and the team of Danny Ramsey, Alex Egan, Jack Knott and Lea Locatelli won the 3-hole Scramble with a score of 11.

A small putting contest was held after the main tournament for all competitors and was won by Khalifa Abdulla.
Prizes were presented to all the winners by 2010 Club Captain Isa Al Borshaid and entertainment was provided courtesy of Bahrain Radio DJ Krazy Kevin.
