Hayman and Surr new slim n lite Amatuer mixed open Champions
The 6th Annual Slim’ n Lite Amateur Mixed Open Championship got under way last Friday in blustery conditions at the Al Ghazal Golf Club the number one Sand course in the Region, but this did not deter the full complement of competitors.
The event was open to any combination of competitors, i.e. two men, two ladies or one man and one woman, the event has always been a very popular event as there have always been a few twists and turns in how the event is played. This year the sponsors introduced a betterball stroke play ¾ handicap format with the best nett score to count on holes 1 to 8 and 10 to 17 with both nett scores to count on the 9th and 18th holes.
The first round saw a plethora of low scores with the pairing of Mark Hayman and Angela Scurr carding a 74 the best score of the day, closely followed by Kevin Darroch and Norman Forsyth on 75 and in third place were Bernie Blanchard and Richard Whiteside on 76.

The second round began at 9 am on Saturday, with many pairings looking to the Slim’ n Lite Championship title. The best score of the day was carded by Lizette Breytenbach and Daniel Van Dyk with an impressive 77, closely followed by Blanchard and Whiteside on 78. The leading pair of Hayman and Scurr were unable to re-create their first round score, but managed to scrape in with a 79, and 1 shot lead total of 153 from Blanchard and Whiteside on 154, third place went to Breytenbach and Van Dyk on 155, and fourth place went to Jan P. Friedmann and Rene Valencia on 157, winning on count back from Darroch and Forsyth’s second round 82 cost them a better placing, but gave them the best first day prize for their impressive 75. Best second day of 78 was won by Nathan Brown and Andrew Hanel. Wooden Spoon winners were Allen Ridley and Leonard Jacobs.
2’s Club winners for both days were, Mark Hayman, Rob Jennings, Paul Carrahar, Pat Gordon, Keith Hindmarsh, Mick Brett and Adda Haouara.
Lady Captain Pauline Jeynes announced the prize winners and Hany Abdelnour of Slim’ n Lite Health & Diet Food Centre presented the prizes. Lady Captain in closing thanked Hany Abdelnour for his continued support of this event.
