Harib praises government backing for DP World Tour Championship

As the countdown continues to the 2012 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, behind the scenes a number of Government of Dubai departments are working together to make sure the $8 million tournament provides a fitting finale to golf’s Race to Dubai. Staged under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, the DP World Tour Championship will be staged on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf estates from 22-25 November.

But before the top 60 players on The European Tour’s Race to Dubai descend on the city, teamwork is the key with governmental bodies playing important roles alongside event promoters and organisers as the eyes of the golfing world prepare to focus on Dubai for the crowning of the tournament’s champion as well as the presentation to World Number One Rory McIlroy of The Race to Dubai trophy.

“The support the tournament receives from the Government of Dubai is vital to the success of the DP World Tour Championship,” said Saeed Harib, Managing Director, Nakheel Marine & Leisure.

“Jumeirah Golf Estates is a wonderful venue and a great example of the latest golfing facilities in the city. However, we would not be able to put on a show worthy of the occasion without the assistance of the Dubai Sports Council, the RTA, Dubai Calendar, Falcon and Associates, the Dubai Police and Emergency Services and the Dubai Health Authority.

“During the build-up and on the day itself they are a key part of our logistics. We thank HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, for his ongoing support and every contributing department for their magnificent efforts in making the event one of the key sporting and social occasions in Dubai.”

From the unobtrusive policing and medical staff working at the event to the hundreds of taxis laid on to transport golf fans across the city from Jumeirah Golf Estates, Government services come together to stage what for the fourth year running will be the finale of The European Tour season.

“Organisation for the 2012 event began almost as soon as the trophies were presented to last year’s tournament winner Alvaro Quiros and to 2011 Race to Dubai Champion Luke Donald, “ said Nick Tarratt, Director, European Tour International, Dubai Office.

“Staging what is in effect the end of season celebration of The European Tour International Schedule takes a great deal of planning and we are fortunate that here in Dubai we can count on exemplary support from departments and organisations in terms of event infrastructure, planning and execution. Once again, with all that assistance and cooperation, I am sure we will have a fitting finale to another magnificent European Tour season at Jumeirah Golf Estates.”

Featuring the top 60 players on The Race to Dubai – including all 12 of the winning European Ryder Cup team – the tournament will see some of the biggest names in world golf competing for $8 million in prize money as well as a share of The Race to Dubai Bonus Pool of $3.75 million awarded to the top ten in The Race to Dubai at the end of the season.
