The inaugural Dubai Golf BMW Medal was staged over the Faldo course that included members of both Emirates Golf Club and sister club Dubai Creek. On a hot and humid day the 53-strong field performed admirably with three players signing for sub par rounds.

Paul Byrne continued his fine run of form, having triumphed in the Emirates Singles Matchplay Championship, by signing for a net 69. The highlight of his consistent performance was a birdie four on the 515-yard 3rd hole. His closest challengers in Division A (handicap 0-9) were Jignesh Sangani and Patrick Morrow, both were three shots back with Sangani taking runners-up place following a card count back.

The best gross of the day went to Bradley Hamilton, representing Emirates Golf Club, who returned a gross 75. Starting from the par five third he opened with an eagle three, consistent golf followed until a trio of bogeys on his final three holes resulted in a three over par total.

Kuttan Malattiri clinched Division B (handicap 10 and above) with a best of the day 68, his winning card included birdies on the 523-yard 5th and short 12th. Nigel Hopkins returned to form with a net 70 to take runners-up place ahead of Suresh Shewakramani and Neil Taylor both on 72.
