Greer claims Golf Citizen UAE Series qualifier at Al Badia Golf Club

Gavin Greer took full advantage of playing on his home course to seal a comfortable win in the third 2013 GOLF CITIZEN UAE Series Qualifier at Al Badia Golf Club on Friday.

Starting his day on the 11th hole of the famous Trent-Jones II layout, Gavin rode on four net birdies in his final six holes to card 37 stableford points, three ahead of his nearest challenger Kieran O’Connor.

With the top six players making it to the UAE Grand Final on December 2 where they will play for a place in the 2013 Omega Dubai Ladies Masters Pro-am, there was much at stake.

In contrast to Gavin’s consistent scoring, O’Connor scored bogey or worse on seven holes but balanced his card with four net birdies and a stunning net eagle on the 8th hole to finish second.

George Fitchett produced a birdie- birdie finish to take third and he may well be a threat in the final, which will be played on the Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club.

George’s 33 points ensured that his qualification was comfortable. Barry Pavic and Malcolm Turner both scored 32 points to finish in 4th and 5th place respectively and the list of qualifiers was completed when Yves Heye edged Ian Milligan through a scorecard countback.

There was a twist in the tale however, as tournament winner, Gavin Greer is unavailable for the Grand Final thus creating a space in the field for Ian.

The fourth and final 2013 GOLF CITIZEN UAE Series Qualifier will also be played at Al Badia Golf Club, on Friday, November 29. Golfers can enter through www.golfcitizen.com, which provides a comprehensive online global tee-time reservations network.
