Golf in Dubai felicitates the Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Police for support

Organisers of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic felicitated Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Police for their continued and valued partnership with golf in DUBAi when the longest-running European Tour event in the region celebrated its 25th anniversary last week.

HH Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, presented commemorative plaques to Dr Ahmed Al Sharif, Secretary-General of the council, and Captain Essa Ahli and Jamal Al Sumaitiat, both of Dubai Police, in recognition of their remarkable contributions at the event’s presentation ceremony held at Emirates Golf Club.
With His Highness Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, at the helm, DSC has successfully created a comprehensive sports environment for the youth by cultivating their sporting and cultural talents. In line with their vision to instill a sports culture in the UAE youth, DSC organizes and supports several sporting activities besides developing world class sporting facilities so crucial to making Dubai a leading name in the world of sports.
DSC’s innovative initiative to launch of the Shaikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Creative Sports Award in 2008 – the most prestigious award of its kind all over the world with respect to its financial rewards & various categories – has further given a massive boost to sports.
The award recognizes creative efforts of sports individuals, groups, bodies and institutions seeking to develop sports creativity in all fields and on all levels.

It is a fitting tribute to Dubai Police that the city is seen as one of the safest in the world and a relatively crime-free place to live as the rapidly rising numbers in-bound tourists suggests.
Headed by Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazeina, Dubai Police strongly believe sport can also play a role in preventing violence. Its corrective institutions have always stressed the importance of preserving the physical and mental health of inmates by involving them in sporting activities.
“It is important to promote “fair play” and raise awareness against violence and drug use among the UAE’s younger generation,” he said in a message to the Sports vs Crime Conference held in Dubai recently.
Lauding golf in DUBAi role in putting together a world-class event each year, Captain Ahli said: “The tournament, which well known for attracting a top-class field, has ensured the city is now ranked among the most desirable golfing destinations in the world.”
Commented Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi, the promoters and organizers of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters: “Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Police have been tremendous pillars of support.
