‘golf in DUBAi’ ambassador Bjorn on a Golfing roll

'golf in DUBAi' ambassador Thomas Bjorn capped a remarkable resurgence this season when he won the Omega European Masters in Switzerland on Sunday, becoming the first player to post back-to-back victories on the European Tour since Charl Schwartzel (2010 Africa Open and 2010 Joburg Open).

Unfazed by threats of storms which forced the organizers to bring forward tee times, Bjorn made a stunning charge, closing with a sizzling 62 to go 20-under-par for the tournament, beating his nearest challenger and world number five Martin Kaymer by a good four shots.

Unlike last week's Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles when the Great Dane, a recent inductee into the 'Big Four-O' club, needed to dig deep into his reserves to win a five-man playoff on the fifth extra hole, the finish this time around had no extra element of suspense.
Starting the day three shots off the pace, the Dane reeled off five birdies in a six-hole stretch, beginning from the fifth to catch up with Kaymer and then sealed the issue with an eagle on the 15th which was followed by back-to-back birdies on the last two holes, extending the margin of his victory. The closing 62 also matched the lowest round of his European Tour career.
"The way I finished was special and it's been an amazing two weeks," said Bjorn who has now moved to just outside the top-25 from the 59th in the Official World Golf Ranking with this win which was his 19th professional title worldwide, and third of this season.

"Golf seems easy sometimes and you have to remember that when you are not playing well," added Bjorn, who is being touted as a possible Ryder Cup captain when the match with the US is staged at Gleneagles in three years' time.

But he is more interested in playing than taking the helm. "I want to play – I don't want to sit on the sidelines in a buggy," said the Dane who has featured twice in the biennial team event, the last time nine years ago.
"You enjoy playing golf when you see results and you see progress. As long as I see progress, I'll keep playing," he added.

Two more golf in DUBAi ambassadors in the field posted middle-of-the-pack finishes with Denmark's Soren Hansen settling for a tied 18th while India's Jeev Milkha Singh was tied 35th after opening with a bogey-free 67.
Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi, congratulated Bjorn on his what he called an incredible victory: "Thomas is enjoying something of a renaissance in his distinguished career. He played great well last week and this week he was just sensational. Well done Thomas, we are proud of you," he added.
