Gilbert Pingol triumphant as Prince of 6th Philippine Independence Day Golf Invitational 2014

76 GOLFERS armed with Philippine clad attire celebrated the 116th Anniversary of Philippine Independence led by His Hon. Consul General Frank Cimafranca on a windy & bright afternoon on 6th June 2014.

Century Properties sponsored the minor prizes, Tapa King was the HOLE SPONSOR with competitions in all 18 holes. SUN BUM provided the sun protection freebies upon check in and Dubai Golf distributed Golf Discount Vouchers. FIGME provided all the golfers with commemorative golf balls. The magnificent Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club was the official venue of the popular event.

Gilbert Pingol was crowned the Prince of 2014 Independence Day Golf Invitational with a massive score of 34 pts playing off 19 HCP. Lucky putts dropped in the cup even shots reaching the greens only on 3. The grand prize was a Cathay Pacific round trip Business Class ticket bound to Hong Kong. Thirty one Crystal trophies were provided by TFC – OSN to all division winners.

Usman Akbar (8) led the Platinum Division (HCP 0 to 12)  with 32 points followed by Lorenzo Rivera (7) with 31, and Chris Burkill (11) with 29 points.

Gold Division (HCP 13 – 18) was hotly contested with Jay Martin Yap (11) & Dr. Andrew Devine (14) sharing 31 pts. each. Larry Mendoza (11) 29 points and Jimmy Camero (12) 28 points completed the mythical four.

Silver Division (HCP 19 – 26) saw Jackson Morilla (HCP 23) leading the golfers in their category with 28 stableford pts. Dan Samarasinghe (22) and Clarence Facun (17) completed the line up with 24 & 21 points respectively. Clarence winning a count back from Rene Sarmiento.

In the Bronze “LADIES” Division, consistent Christine Caringal (HCP 25) won a landslide victory with 32 points followed by Neyza Caberto (HCP21) with 23 SF points.

Various raffle prizes were given at a lucky draw and a grand prize of another Cathay Pacific Business Class Ticket was won by Roger Corpuz.
Arnenio Bautista was judged as the Best Dressed / chic Golfer of the Day.

Consul General stated that “It is indeed an honor to see Filipinos and various nationalities celebrate our 116th Anniversary of Philippine Independence through a sport where all unite for a common purpose. Enjoy, have fun, meet new friends and contribute back to the society that we live.  Filipino Golfers in the Middle East has been an example of a dynamic group with emphasis on Culture of Social Responsibility. I would like to thank Ramon Navea, FIGME Chairman, the committee/officers (Chito, Dan, Victor, Alex, Wayne, & Romeo) all the FIGME MEMBERS and particularly the golfers and guests which made this celebration a success.”

Filipino Golfers in the Middle East handed over their CSR initiative (undisclosed amount) to Bantay Bata 163 – ABS CBN Foundation on 10th June 2014 which was received by Mr. Danny Buenafe, Middle East & Europe Bureau Chief on behalf of Mr. Edgardo Garcia (Managing Director, The Filipino Channel).
