German teenage Golf sensation Dominic Foos signs up for Mena Golf Tour Q school

The MENA Golf Tour has received a massive shot in the arm with German teenage sensation Dominic Foos committing to play in the Qualifying School to be held in the Moroccan capital of Rabat next month. A naturally-gifted player from St Leon-Rot Golf Club, near Heidelberg, Foos provided a glimpse of his precocious talent, becoming Germany’s top-ranked amateur golfer and the number one under-15 golfer in the world in 2012 before turning professional on his 17th birthday last year.

A quick gander at his early days reveals Foos was destined to make it big in golf given his dramatic improvement since taking to the sport when he was just three years old. By the time he was 12, he was already a scratch golfer and two years later he was playing off plus five.

Bringing his own fair and exuberance to the game, Foos won just about everything up for grabs as an amateur and represented Europe in both the Jacques Léglise Trophy and the Junior Ryder Cup.

‘I feel I am ready for new challenges and look forward with excitement to take the next step in my golf career,” said Foos ahead of the MENA Golf Tour Q-School, which will be held at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam Course from March 30 to April 1.

“It will be my first time on the tour, but I have a fair idea of what to expect. I know they have a lot of the players who on their day are as good as anyone on any other tour,” said Foos, who, in 2012, became the youngest player to win the German Matchplay Championship for Men before adding the German and French International Boys titles to his rich cache of trophies in 2013.

“The MENA Golf Tour structure is great and organisation just fantastic. Where else can you get the opportunity to play in world-class events like the DUBAi Open and the Omega Dubai Desert Classic?

“If I continue to play the way I have been playing, I think I stand a good chance of posting a good finish,” said the German prodigy who finished in a tie for16th at the Qatar Masters in 2014.

Mohamed Juma Buamaim, chairman of the MENA Golf Tour, welcoming Foos to the family of the tour, said: “Dominic’s astonishing rise will certainly serve as a source of inspiration to many youngsters, especially from the region, who will look up to him and want to emulate his feats.

“We want to give young people the opportunity to be the best and we see Dominic as one of the most exciting young players on the circuit, one who has all the attributes to dominate golf for years to come.

“I really admire the work ethic of young players like Dominic, who keep pushing seasoned pros to get better. It’s good for the game and good for the players.”

In addition to earning playing privileges this season, the MENA Golf Tour Q-School will see the top 50 and ties share $25,000 on the basis of their rankings with the winner walking away with a cheque for $4,500.

Added incentives for MENA Golf Tour members include five guaranteed spots in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, multiple entries in the Asian Tour’s DUBAi Open, one in the Hassan II Trophy and exemptions into the Final Stage of the Asian Tour Q-School for the leading three professionals in addition to attractive prize funds.

Held under the auspices of the Shaikh Maktoum Golf Foundation, the 2015 MENA Golf Tour boasts 10 events on its schedule spread across five countries in the region, including Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE with a total prize fund of $550,000.
