Gerard and Agnes in Last minute Victory at Yas Links Golf Club in International Pairs UAE
It took 10 Qualifying events but the 2010-11 Tech Access International Pairs UAE series finally Gerard & Agnes Letier-Lacaze saw its first husband-wife combination secure a place in the inaugural National Final to be played at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club in May. Gerard & Agnes are the latest winners in the series as they claimed top honours at Yas Links Abu Dhabi by the narrowest of margins – by scorecard countback.
This was International Pairs UAE’s last visit to the capital for this season and on a day when high winds hit the city, this testing links course, which is rapidly growing in stature, bared its teeth and several pairs found themselves out of the running early as wayward shots were caught in the breeze. But in the end, two pairs held their games together and emerged with the same 41 stableford points.
There was high drama at the UAE’s newest club as Club Champion Joe Howell and his partner Brian McClure held the clubhouse for most of the day until the Letier-Lacazes, playing in the final group came in with the same score. Only one point separated the pairs on the back-9 and the spoils went to the late finishers.
Nearest-the-Pin prizes were awarded to Walter Hall and David Cockerton for their excellent shots on holes 8 and 13 respectively.
This was the tenth Qualifying event in the 2010-11 Tech Access International Pairs UAE Presented by Cadillac. Gerard & Ahnes Letier-Lacaze join representatives from Arabian Ranches Golf Club, Abu Dhabi City Golf Club, Abu Dhabi Golf Club, The Montgomerie Dubai, Al Ghazal Golf Club, Jumeirah Golf Estates, The Els Club, Emirates Golf Club and Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club whose names are already in the National Final draw. The next Qualifying event is on 9th April when International Pairs UAE pays its first visit to Ras al Khaimah and members of Al Hamra Golf Club will have the opportunity to be involved in the only Club Members’ international event in the UAE.
