Gary Langthorne takes Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club April Orient Travel Monthly Medal

Well known SGSC member Gary Langthorne kept his cool and completed a very commendable round of 87-14=73 for a one stroke victory in the recent Orient Travel Monthly Medal for April.

Langthorne who usually excels from the tougher back set of tee’s went out just dropping 6 strokes, however a triple at the 11th hole slowed his progress, but a birdie at the water riddled 15th hole plus a string of steady bogeys enabled him to win his first medal of the season on one over 73. Langthorne also made the move from 10th position into 4th on the Tourism Authority Order of Merit at the most pivotal time of the season, with just one round left to play as a whole host of golfers attempt to finish in the top 3 and secure that exciting golf trip to Thailand courtesy of the sponsors.

Finishing just one stroke behind Langthorne were a host of players, Ex SGSC Club Captain Mel Stewart who also scooped the winning prize within the afternoon golfers, and also Tony Beaumont and A.E Ravi who picked up 2nd and 3rd place in the morning respectively. The other days winners were Y.D Kim who finished on net 75 for runners-up position in the afternoon, Kim continuing what has been an unbelievable month of golf for the Korean member, whilst third spot going to Mel Stewart’s wife Jacqui on 78.

The gross awards for the day went to George Liu in the morning with a five over 77, Liu also cementing his spot at the top of the Gross O.O.M by a clear 18 points. Whilst a gross 84 was good enough in the afternoon with a slightly weaker field of golfers teeing it up compared to the morning.

With one Medal left in the season the Tourism Authority of Thailand Net Order of Merit has really revved up, Jaydeep Sarkar consolidates his lead at the top and barring a disastrous final medal should have booked his seat on the plane, however anyone of the top 8 could realistically breach the top 3 spots, making for an extremely exciting but nerve-wracking final event.
