Fleetwood ready for his DP World Tour Championship debut after maiden win

Tommy Fleetwood’s maiden European Tour win at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles has secured the talented young Englishman a place in the star-studded DP World Tour Championship, Dubai – the final event of the 2013 Race to Dubai.

By taking his earnings for the year to € 582,212, the 22 year-old has broken through the half million Euro mark that for the past four years has been good enough to clinch a place in the top 60 and a berth at the US$8 million tournament to be staged on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates from 14-17 November.

It means the former amateur World Number One will head to the Earth course for the lucrative conclusion to the season and a date with many of the biggest names in world golf.

Already set to return to Jumeirah Golf Estates are big guns such as current Race to Dubai leader Henrik Stenson, US Open Champion Justin Rose, former DP World Tour Championship and Race to Dubai winner Lee Westwood, former US Open Champion Graeme McDowell and Ryder Cup stars Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia and Miguel Angel Jimenez.

“It has been a great season for Tommy and he is almost certainly guaranteed a place in the top 60 prior to the DP World Tour Championship,” said European Tour International Director, Dubai Office Nick Tarratt.

“Historically, earning more than € 500,000 from the minimum number of qualifying events has been enough to secure a place in the line-up so we are confident Tommy will join us for his debut at the tournament.”

Last year, Fleetwood was forced to watch the climax to The European Tour season on television after finishing 109th in The Race to Dubai, well outside the qualifiers for the DP World Tour Championship.

But after securing his first European Tour International Schedule victory at the 65th attempt, he has moved up to 34th in this year’s Race to Dubai and is set to open up a whole new chapter of his golfing career just three years after reaching the peak of the amateur game.

The European Tour heads to Wales for the next stop on The Race to Dubai with the ISPS Honda Wales Open at Celtic Manor this weekend (29 August to 1 September). Just eleven tournaments remain, including The Final Series: BMW Masters, Shanghai; WGC-HSBC Champions, Shanghai; the Turkish Airlines Open and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
