First Al Ain Schools Golf event proves a hit with the kids

The Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club recently hosted its first ever golf event for local schools at its Academy Course with the support of Eastern Motors, automotive member of Al fahim Group and had a field of over 30 children taking part.

“This is something we have talked about introducing in Al Ain for some time now” explained Fraser Mclaughlan, the Head Teaching Professional at the Club. “Having the first event at this time of the year was a slight gamble as we were not sure on the interest it would receive but thankfully the pupils of Al Ain International School, Al Ain English Speaking School and Brighton College, were not put off by the temperature. We also had a team that wanted to join from the Emirates National School but a clash with their school exams meant they could not take part. There is also interest from a further 3 schools to be part of the Al Ain Schools League and we will be putting the dates and format together, ready for them when they return after their summer holidays”.

The eventual winners were the team from the Al Ain International School made up of Dane Sandford Junior, Daniel Whittaker, Peter Whittaker, Leia Holden, Lewis Chaffen, Ameerah Kohn, Ethan Hynes, Amelie Kohn, Ben Abbot and Holden Stone, with their 8 over par total to see off their competitors with comparative ease. There was nothing to spilt the remaining 2 schools, Brighton College and Al Ain English Speaking School, who both received their silver medals at the prize giving ceremony after play.

“It was great to see so many children representing their schools and having a good time. The majority of children participating have come through our Junior Program here, and as the School League grows, it will only be great in allowing more of youngsters here in Al Ain a chance to get into Golf in a fun and competitive way”, explained Luke Plumb, the Tournament Coordinator at the AESGC. “Thanks also must go to Eastern Motors for their support, the teachers and parents who came along to watch the children play  and to the children themselves for making the first event such a great one”.
