Fawaz shrugged off a strong challenge emerge victorious in the UAE National Monthly Tournament

Nawaf Fawaz shrugged off a strong challenge from fellow competitors to emerge victorious in the UAE National Monthly Tournament, organized by the Emirates Golf Federation, at the Els Club.

Playing consistently from tee to green, Fawaz carded a solid 37 points, beating his nearest rival Jamal Bin Marghoub by one points. Adel Zarouni finished third on 34 points.
Mohammed Al Musharrekh, who won the first two opening events of the monthly tournaments, however, continues to lead the Order of Merit table which is based stableford points.

Khalid Yousuf, a member of the UAE national team, made his presence felt, winning the prestigious best gross prize when he signed with an impressive four-over-par 76.

Saleh Al Amiri dominated the proceedings in Division A, take the honours with 32 points while Mohammed Al Bana reigned supreme in Division B, also with 32 points.

The nine-hole Junior Division event also produced a close affair with Omar Al Shehi sneaking ahead of the field with some solid golf. Playing off silver tees, Al Shehi carded a gross 47 on the front nine, beating Ahmed Skaik by one shot.

Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the Emirates Golf Club, said: “Competitions in all divisions again were pretty close which shows any player on his day can win the event. This is a good sign for the event which has been well received by the Emirati players.

“I would like to thank all the players and the Els Club for their support in making the tournament a great success.”

Overall winner: Nawaf Fawaz 37 points, 2. Jamal Bin Marghoub 36 points, 3. Adel Zarouni 34 points.
