Family Flavour at the Address Montgomerie Dubai
Satnam Kaur and Sandeep Singh completed several ‘firsts’ for the Tech Access International Pairs UAE Presented by Cadillac when they won the latest Qualifying Event at The Address Montgomerie Dubai on Saturday 8th January. Not only are they the first all-family pairing to claim a berth in the UAE National Final to be played at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club in May but Satnam and Sandeep are the first lady and junior qualifiers in the inaugural series.
With the famous layout presented in perfect early morning conditions, 64 members took to the course all with aim of progressing to the National Final and representing The Montgomerie against pairs from every club in the UAE but it was the mother and son pairing who emerged victorious albeit by the narrowest of margins.
No stranger to the podium, Satnam starts every event as a possible contender but despite combining superbly with Sandeep to record eight net birdies and a better-ball score of 42 points, they needed a countback to clinch victory from Chris King and Dan Davies. Tied over 18 holes and then on the back-9 as well, Satnam and Sandeep covered the last six holes in one less shot to secure a place in the May event and a chance to go on to the International Pairs World Final in Scotland.
Third place, just a point behind on 41, was taken by Rajinder Razdan and Qamar Rashed although once again a countback was required, this time going all the way to the final three holes on the card, with Qamar’s gross birdie, net eagle on the 16th proving decisive! Nearest the Pin prizes were awarded to Barb McBean and Raymi van der Spek for their efforts on holes 8 and 13 respectively.
This was the fourth Qualifying event in the 2010-11 Tech Access International Pairs UAE Presented by Cadillac and Satnam and Sandeep join representatives from Arabian Ranches Golf Club, Abu Dhabi City Golf Club and Abu Dhabi Golf Club whose names are already in the National Final draw. The next Qualifying event sees a return to Abu Dhabi in late January and and the first visit to a sand course when members of Al Ghazal Golf Club will have the opportunity to be involved in the only Club Members’ international event in the UAE!
