Estment lands maiden victory in FIGME Championship

Strong delegation of 66 golfers, mostly members of Filipino Golfers in the Middle East (FIGME), exhibited their golfing prowess last 8th October 2010 in the exclusive Fire Course of Jumeirah Golf Estates.

The event is the 6th out of 8 Major Tournaments in the pipeline which culminates in December 2010 for the Order of Merit Award.

Garreth Estment (South African FIGME member) thrashed out all competitors with his fiery barrage of 7 pars and 2 birdies scoring 37 stable ford points playing off 16 handicap. His long hitting drives and putting skills was a proof of his maiden victory.

Hisham Yusof (8) led the field of Platinum “A” Division with a score of 36 points followed by Eric Matabang (11) with 34 points and Chris Parry (11) in third place with 34 points with former winning by a better back nine.

The Gold “B’ Division (14 – 20 HCP) saw a balanced battle as Rey Lapa (13) with 35 points emerging the winner, followed by Larry Mendoza (18) with 32 points, Geoffrey Farley (17) in third place and Mario Marimon (14) garnering 30 points.

Andy Wang (23) got the best results for his 33 points under Silver “C” Division. Dong Wei (23) and Mark Cranston (21) both followed 2nd & 3rd respectively.

Special prize was also handed out to the Longest Drive of the day given to Janine Hadley, a consistent recipient of the award. Nearest the Pins in holes 8th & 14th went to David Gowans & Simon Teoh. Nearest the Marker / flag went to John Larkin and nearest the pin in 2 shots was captured by Nathan Adams.

Prizes drawn out of the hat were won by Hisham (Mc Gregor Tour Bag), Ryan Hoo (Leather JGE Duffle Bag) and a brand new Cobra driver went to Capt. Giordano Gelasini.
