England team dominate Kohlman Nations Cup

The England team, represented by Steve Kelly, Chris Turlik, Joel Neale and Khalid Yousuf, recorded a brilliant tally of 91 stableford points to win the Kohlman Nations Cup at the Emirates Golf Club. With a total of 132 players for honours, the tournament once again lived up to its reputation of being one of the most popular events of the year on the club’s caledar.

The Yousuf-Neale combination signed for 48 points, a staggering effort that included two eagles and nine birdies over the fabulous Majlis course. This was also good enough to earn them the prize for best pair.

The other half of the four-ball, Turlik and Kelly played some fantastic golf contributing 43 points to the Nation’s team that included four birdies and eagle two from Kelly on the 346-yard par 4 second hole.

Five points behind top place were the teams from Canada and Greece. Canada, led by club captain Mike Tracey, clinched runners-up place. Brian Wilson, Pentti Tahvanainen and Rod Smith were the other members of the Canadian team.

Also on the 86-point mark and taking third place after a count-back was the team from Greece that consisted off Mick Brett, Stathis Stathis, Nick Evangelopoulous and Gurbax Singh.

Cliff Caley, Ian MacDonald, Jim Carrigy and Mike Craig played some consistent golf to take Ireland to fourth place on 84 points with India-3 taking second represented by Amit Radia, Rohit Gupta, Anand Lakhiani and Lionel Smith.

Australia took the last team prize on offer in sixth place with Paul Turner, Dean Rolfe, Tony White and Rory Macdonald signing for 81 points.

Joel Neale, Naeema Maya, Nick Brewaeys and Dash Dhawan won the Long Drive prizes. The highlight of the nearest the pin awards came on the 166-yard 4th hole where Sanjay Israni, playing in the last group of the day, recorded a hole in one.

Maurice Boyle, Anand Kapoor and Mike Craig collected the remaining nearest the pin prizes.

The Kohlman Nations Cup proved once again to be a fantastic event with the Kohlman group sponsoring refreshments on the course, a dinner buffet and evening entertainment.

The ‘Kohlman Invitees’ event was won by the quartet of Nick Tarratt, Bob Driver, Pali Kohli and Chris May with a score of 78 points. In runners-up position with 75 points was the team captained by the Secretary General of the Emirates Golf Federation Adel Zarouni, Naeema Maya, Satnam Kaur and Sandeep Singh.

The Pakistan team, comprising Burhan Khan, Imran Siddiqi, Kevin Roy and Zoff Khan, was adjudged as the best attired team.
