Engelbrecht and Hoban make a Winning start to the Season

The members October Monthly Medal opened the curtains on the start of another busy season’s of golf at Al Hamra and was the first event in the Club’s winter Order of Merits and Eclectics.

There was an abundance of impressive golf played out on the course as Paul Hoban shot a fantastic nett 69 to take the mixed Net Division by 2 shots and reduce his handicap index to 11.2. He returned his card with nines of 40 and 43 which included 11 gross pars, with the only one real blemish coming in the form of a quadruple bogey at the par 4 12th hole. Hoban’s outstanding performance has been knocking at the door for a while and this 2 shot victory is an acknowledgement to the improvements in his golf game over the last year. Taking the net runners-up spot was Angelo Kondes who played his first club competition in over a year following surgery on a shoulder injury. Kondes reproduced one of his customary steady rounds to finish with a net 71 although it could have been much better had it not been for a couple of double bogeys mid-round. Rounding of the net awards was birthday boy Ian Broom who was celebrating his 50th birthday. Broom finished off a solid round of golf with a satisfying 72 net.

Rita Engelbrecht may soon require another trophy cabinet as she once again added to her ever growing collection by claiming the mixed Gross Division title. Engelbrecht started her round with mixed fortunes but performed admirably on the back nine to consolidate her victory with an 82 gross. Finishing as runner-up and carrying on his floodlit form was Steve Rayment as he returned to the clubhouse in 83 shots. Also finishing on 83 was Victor Hails who missed out on second place following a card playoff with Rayment.
