Emirati golfer Ahmed Al Musharrekh wins Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club Ramadan Open

The 2011 Ramadan Open sponsored by Titleist and Footjoy was played today at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. Eighty players from all over the UAE battled it out in tough humid conditions on the stunning creek side course.

21 year old Emirati golfer Ahmed Al Musharrekh came out on top with a superb 3-under par 68 which was enough to win by four shots over second place Stephen Reid (72) and six shots from Brian McCarthy (74).  He started on hole 14 with a par 3 and then followed with a nice birdie 3 on the 15th and then  a run of 11 pars before dropping back to level par when he bogeyed the long par-4 9th.  But with just four holes to go Ahmed put his foot on the gas producing a magnificent eagle on the par-5 10th (his 15th) and then closing out with a birdie four the 13th.  Stephen Reid who has won several events recently did his best to catch Al Musharrekh with a strong finish but in the end he had to settle for second place this time.

After the game, Al Musharrekh who has just returned from Fiji where he was representing the UAE in the prestigious Nomura Cup said, “I am very happy to have won today on my home course.  There was a strong field out there, but it was difficult conditions with the heat which made the scoring a little higher than normal.  My game feels really solid right now and I’m looking forward to next month’s Dubai Golf Trophy at Emirates Golf Club.  Hopefully we can win back the trophy from the professionals this year”.
After the event Reid commented “I am delighted with my score today as it was very tough with the heat.  I thoroughly enjoyed my day.  The course was in great condition and I’m looking forward to the final event of the series at Emirates Golf Club in September”.
