Emirates Golf Federation team beat Emirates Golf Clubs academy

A four-member team, representing the Emirates Golf Federation, came out with flying colours when they defeated the Emirates Golf Club’s academy team 2.5 to 1.5 in a match-play encounter meant to inculcate competitive spirit among newcomers to the game.

The match, played at the Emirates Golf Club par-3 course, was part of the ongoing National Junior Programme which is aimed at encouraging young Emiratis to take to the game in a fun-filled environment.

Yousef Albudoor, Ahmad Shaik Omar Shehhi and Ahmad Albudoor represented EGF’s young ‘hopefuls’ while EGC team consisted of Jeremiah Delos Reyes, Abraham Delos Reyes, Blair Lightbody and Takumi Miyawaki.

“You can play golf and we are here to help you, is the very intention of organizing these events for young enthusiasts to the game,” said Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the Emirates Golf Federation.

“In matches of this nature, the youngsters will discover all the different shots they need to know and how to play them. They will also find out about the fascinating rules and etiquette of golf and why they make the game unique,” he said.

“Golf is the fastest growing sport here and our intention is to ensure young nationals are familiar with the game,” he added.

Stephan Deane, Head Professional at Emirates Golf Club, commented: “It was fantastic to watch the academy juniors participate in what was their first experience of head-to-head match play.

“There were certainly some nerves and tension on the first tee, but all handled the pressure extremely well and produced some good golf. We would like to congratulate the young Emiratis on their performance and we look forward to a rematch in the not so distant future.”
