Emirates Golf Federation National Day golf tournament produces some scintillating golf

The National Day golf tournament, organised by the Emirates Golf Federation, produced some scintillating golf on the fairways and greens of the Yas Links Abu Dhabi on Thursday.

Sponsored by the National Marine Dredging Company for the four year in a row, the event saw a number of UAE national golfers team up with players from different nationalities in a field of 100 players to celebrate the 40th National Day.

The players, which included some board members of the Emirates Golf Federation, were split into teams of four adding to the festive fervour. Winning the annual event with an impressive score of 85 points was the four-man team of Jamel Stephan, Hyder Khazaal, Abdulrahman Al Laggiti and Nadine Abi Asaad.

The team of Ron Littleton, Murshid Al Rumaithy, Chris Elms and Abdullah Al Marzouqi finished second two points adrift, beating the foursome of Abdullah Al Muharrami, Soumaya Argui, Hassan Al Marzouqi and Alan Selem on a countback.

Nearest to the pin and longest drives prizes in both men and ladies divisions further added to the fun and made the competition even livelier.

Darwish Al Qubaisi, a board member of the National Marine Dredging Company, the main sponsors of the event, thanked the players and the staff of Yas Links Abu Dhabi for making the event a great success.

“Of course, there was this festive feel to the tournament, success but the intensity level never dropped on the course as the overall scores suggest,” he said, adding: “Once again we had a great response to the tournament and that clearly reflected on the growing popularity of the event which has now become a permanent fixture on the UAE calendar.”
