Emirates Golf Club retain Golf Scratch League title

The Emirates Golf Club retained the Invitational Golf Scratch League title for the third consecutive year when they beat the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club in a sudden death play off at The Els Club recently.

In a year that saw the welcome inclusion of both Al Badia Golf Club and The Els Club into the Scratch League, the Emirates Golf Club and the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club emerged from the league phase in first position in the two respective leagues. Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club and the Arabian Ranches also advanced to the semi finals by finishing runners up in the two leagues.

In the first semi final the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club beat the Arabian Ranches three matches to one, with credit going to all the players for agreeing to play the match on the sand course at Sharjah !

The second semi final saw the Emirates Golf Club emphatically defeat Sharjah Wanderers Golf Club by four matches to nil.

Hence the Scratch League reached it’s conclusion with the final being played at The Els Club  – many thanks go to Chris Brown and his staff for hosting this years final.

The first two matches were won by Joel Neale with Khalid Yousuf and Kouroche Achtari with Ed Hesson to give the Emirates Golf Club a two to nil lead, however the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club fought back with Peter Shaw and David Gowans winning their match 5 & 4 and Miki Mirza with Paul King finishing one up.

Therefore the match went to a sudden death play off with Joel and Khalid up against Miki and Paul – the first hole was halved in four but then Khalid made two on the next and the Emirates Golf Club emerged as Champions once again.
