Elements Golf Society kicks off their first event at Jumeirah Fire

In baking heat the inaugural ‘Elements Golf Society’ proved to be very successful with a total of 27 players from Abu Dhabi British School, Al Ain, Members of Jumeirah Golf Estates and residents of Dubai.

The members competed in a full handicap Stableford event off the Tournament tees of the challenging Greg Norman designed FIRE Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates. With the course subjecting players to some of the UAE’s longest par 3 holes ranging from 179 – 228 yards and other not so long holes but all demanding respect with tactical course management to score well, it was always going to be difficult for some especially in the 38-40 degree heat!

3rd Place was won by Mehrdad Ekbatani with a commendable 36 points in such testing conditions. 1st and 2nd places coming in with 39 points each were decided on a back nine count back where Andrew Costelow and his 21 points outscored Chris Saunders with 17 pts respectively. Costelow carded 8 gross pars and a birdie on the 17th concluding his 18 hole tally of 39 points.

Further prizes were awarded for Nearest the Pin, Nearest the Pin in 2 and Nearest the Pin in 3, and these were very well deserved by Darren Goode, Gerry Brady and Steve Drake respectively who are all current members at Jumeirah Golf Estates clearly illustrating that local knowledge and a members bounce certainly exist!

Further society events are likely to be held towards the end of July and despite the anticipation of extreme climatic conditions during that season the ‘Elements Golf Society’ will ensure they brave them and enjoy a sociably spirited event with golfers from all over the emirates.
