Eagle Helps Munro Land UAE PGA Al Badia Stableford Success

Al Badia hosted event seven of the UAEPGA OOM season yesterday under the threat of rain.

A total of 31 professionals took part in the event playing a Modified Stableford format. With the format rewarding attacking golf, Al Badia was the perfect venue to use such a format, due to its many risk and reward shots.

UAEPGA professional Steven Munro, playing with OOM leader and defending champ Callum Nicoll claimed top honours after an impressive front nine holes, where at one point, he had amassed 7pts, mainly down to an eagle on the 8th hole.   Three bogeys followed around the turn as Callum, found some form after a poor start to put the pressure on.  After both players birdied the par 5 13th hole, they had created some daylight between them and the rest of the field.  Nicoll followed up with birdies on the 14th and 17th holes to leave Munro with a one shot leads entering the final hole.  Having found a poor lie from his tee shot, Nicoll was forced to lay up with his 2nd shot, opening the door for Munro, who’s 2nd shot finished just to the right of the green allowing for a chip and put birdie to claim victory by 4pts.

Third place with shared by in-form Ryan Smith (The Montgomerie)and Kenny Monaghan (Dubai Creek), while Kenny’s fellow Dubai Creek professional Craig Waddell claimed 5th place on his own, ahead of Malcolm Young (Arabian Ranches), Tom Buchanan (Al Ain) and Emirates Golf Club pro Alistair Brown who shared 6th place, rounding out the prizewinners.

Prizes were handed out by Neil Stewart from PGA Patron Acuma, who along with IP Global continue to support our association tremendously.

Munro was delighted with his win, stating “it was great to play a different format for one of our events and fortunately it is one that suits my game, as today proved.  The eagle on the 8th proved the difference between winning and losing.  It was nice to have Neil down to present the prizes and I would like to thank Acuma & IP Global for continuing to support the UAEPGA.  Al Badia presented the course fantastically and thanks go to James Shippey and his team at the club for their hospitality”
