Dubal driving Omega Dubai Desert Classic Dubai Centre for Special Needs charity

The Dubai Centre for Special Needs (DCSN) stands to benefit immensely from a charitable donation initiative launched by Dubai Aluminium (Dubal) during the 25th edition of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic next week.

In essence, DUBAL, which has been an official sponsor of the European Tour event since 1992, will contribute AED50 for every birdie and AED100 for every eagle scored during the tournament, which celebrates its silver jubilee at Emirates Golf Club from January 27 to February 2.
The initiative will be promoted through various channels in the run-up to and during the tournament. The total amount will be calculated at the close of play on Sunday, February 2, and a DUBAL representative present the cheque to DCSN during the Omega Dubai Desert Classic presentation ceremony.
In addition, DUBAL will invite a group of children from DCSN to attend the tournament, which once again features a ‘family theme’. The children will have the opportunity to meet some of the top players competing in the event and enjoy the carnival-like atmosphere at the tournament village.
The 2013 edition of the tournament produced 1,521 birdies and 33 eagles while in 2012, a total of 1,547 birdies and 35 eagles were recorded
The statistics could  reach new heights this year, thanks to the participation of world number one Tiger Woods, European number one Henrik Stenson and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlory and other past champions. Indeed, the 2014 edition of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic could boast, the strongest field ever assembled for an event outside of the majors this year.
Widely regarded as an industrial flagship of the UAE and one of the largest non-oil contributors to Dubai’s economy, DUBAL this year celebrates the 35th anniversary of the first hot metal produced at the Jebel Ali smelter. The company’s operations have expanded multi-fold over the years, growing in parallel with the phenomenal growth and development of Dubai
“2014 holds special significance for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and DUBAL, as we are both celebrating landmarks in our journey towards a common goal of promoting world-class events that showcase the city of Dubai across the world,” said Mohammed A. Yahya, Manager: Corporate Relations & International Affairs, DUBAL.
“We are immensely proud to have supported the tournament since its inception. It has evolved into, a premier golf event which provides a fantastic platform to promote golf and show the world that DUBAL and the UAE are leading players.

“This charitable donation initiative is part of our commitment to our corporate responsibilities, which include support initiatives and projects that promote the socio-economic growth of Dubai, thus benefiting the cosmopolitan population of the Emirate.”
