Dubai Creek team win the UAE Mens scratch league for the second year in a row

The 2nd and final Leg of the UAE Men’s Scratch League final took place this past weekend at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. This event which runs throughout the year, see’s teams from various clubs across the region compete in a Betterball Scratch Match play format. Making their way to the final this year were the defending champions Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and the Arabian Ranches Golf Club team.

After a hot start from Dubai Creek in the first leg held at Arabian Ranches the score was 3-1 in favour of the defending champions. With their backs against the wall, it was important that the Arabian Ranches team got off to a fast start if they were to overturn the two point deficit. However, it was the Dubai Creek team who came out of the blocks fastest and at the turn were up in all four of their games. Capitalizing on their impressive start first, were the team of Edoardo Galeppini and Bayhaan Lakdawala who eased their way to a 7&5 victory over Ranches boys Stevie Bennett and Eddie Ramage. The rest of the games proved to be a lot more difficult for The Creek boys after a courageous fight back from The Ranches team. However, their efforts were halted when Captain John Fellingham and partner Max Burrow were able to close out their game and the tournament with a 3&1 victory over Kevin Barrett and Scott Sullivan, ensuring victory for the second year in a row. Miki Mirza and partner Michael Mcginley were next to finish and successfully took down the pairing of James Sayer and Ron Murphy with a 2 up victory. Mirroring the Miki and Michael result were fellow team members Ed Fearn and Michail Pinto who completed the clean sweep with a 2 up victory Matthieu Charnelet and Tim Collins and making it 7-1 in the final standings.

After play, Dubai Creek Scratch Team Captain, John Fellingham commented; “What a superb result. I would like to thank all of my team for their great individual performances and teamwork today and last week at Arabian Ranches.  It’s great to get such a good result in the final and I’m very proud of all of my team. We look forward to next year, when we will hopefully be able to defend our title once more”
