Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club Summer Open 2012

Today the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club held the 2012 Dubai Creek Summer Open. The event was as popular as ever with a field of more than 70 golfers battling it out for the sought after title.

Hot and humid summer weather provided a tough test for the entire field.  Overcoming the conditions and easing his way round the course was Sharjah Golf Club’s professional, Trevor Marshall.  Marshall fired a superb 1-under par gross 70 to take top spot.  After being presented his trophy Marshall commented; “Firstly I would like to say thank you to my playing partners for a great game today.  Also a big thanks to Stephen and the staff here at the Creek, the course is excellent and it’s always a pleasure to play.  I’m looking forward to playing here again in a few weeks for the first event of the MENA Tour”.   Ryan Riley finished just two shots behind Marshall to take runner up spot with a very respectable 1-over par gross 72.

The men’s net division was very closely contested and came down to a count-back between Dubai Creek Member Khalil Jamal and EGF member Simon Mmutle.  Both players shot a solid 1-under par net 70 but in the end it was Mmutle who was awarded the top spot on a count-back over the last 6 holes.

Dubai Creek member Joy Lirio continued her dominant run to take top spoils in the ladies division with a superb net 69, while Harini White carded a net 76 to take the runner-up spot.
The junior division was very much a family affair between brothers Dhruv and Rishi Nair.  Rishi, the younger of the two stormed to 1st place with a fantastic net 66 while Dhruv finished with a level par net 71 to finish runner up.

Dubai Creek’s David Gowans showed arrow like accuracy on the par 3 8th hole with a fantastic shot to take nearest the pin prize while Maurice Murphy followed suit to take nearest the pin on the 16th.

After conducting the prize presentation Dubai Creek’s Head Golf Professional Stephen Hubner commented; “It’s a pleasure to see such a great turnout yet again for this event.  I would like to thank our prize sponsors Ping for their support and would also like to give a special mention to our golf course superintendent Matthew Perry and his team for all their hard work in keeping the course in such great shape through the summer.”
