Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club mens back to black open result

The annual Dubai Creek Men’s BACK TO BLACK OPEN, sponsored for the second year running by Thomas Pink was held at the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club with more than 80 players battling it out for the prestigious title.

As always in the Back to Black open, the course was set-up to provide an extremely tough test for the entire field. Once a year and only for this event, the tee’s are moved back as far as possible on each hole. This set-up along with tight pin positions, lightning fast greens and gusting winds would provide a challenging days play.

Despite the testing conditions, leading up to the final few holes it came down to the wire with a host of players in contention for the gross score title. Three players Dino Varkey, Brian McCarthy and Michael Harradine managed to brave the conditions and hold their nerve right till the end. Shooting a superb score of 74 were Varkey and McCarthy with Michael Harradine closely behind them finishing in third. In the end it was Dino Varkey who was triumphant on a count back over the last 9 holes scoring a 34 to McCarthy’s 35. After being presented his trophy by Jon Stevens, General Manager, Al Tayer Insignia, Varkey commented “It is an honour to win the Back to Black Men’s Open at the stunning Dubai Creek Golf Club. It was especially exciting to win with a birdie on the 18th”.

“Once again Thomas Pink is delighted to be associated with such a prestigious British sport which goes hand in hand with Thomas Pink’s identity” commented Jonathan Heilbron, president of Thomas Pink.

There was another tight battle on the day for the title of best net score. Eventually the winner was decided on a count back after Abdul Moiz Khan and Ray Doran both shot net scores of 70. In the same fashion as Varkey’s win it was Ray Doran who came out on top after scoring a four over par score of 39 on the back 9 to edge out Moiz Khan. Upon his victory Doran commented “I would like to thank my great playing partners who joined me on this great course. It was a great day and a fantastic result”.
