Dubai Creek Carpetland Monthly Open Grand Final May 2011
Abdul Aziz Al Hakim and Sabine Freyburger were crowned overall champions for the 2010/2011 Carpetland Monthly Open Series at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on Saturday 14th May.
In testing hot and windy conditions the pair carded a solid net 74 and net 78 in the pairs combined strokeplay format to total a net 152. Their better back nine of combined net 83 was enough by three shots to take the crystal by virtue of their better back nine.
Runner up also with a total of net 152 (73&79) was Ashok Kumar and Suresh Shewakramani. Their combined back nine of net 86 was just not enough to take the title after a season long strong partnership. One shot back on net 153 (75&78) also decided third place by a count back that witnessed Shashi Raghavan and Madhav Nair take the last of the overall honors.

Mike Estafanous and Sean Dolphin won the regular May Carpetland Monthly Open that was played alongside the finalists. The duo carded a superb betterball score of 67, -4 under par to win only by a single shot. Ashok Sindu and Amit Chhabra finished in second place with 68, -3 under par and in third place by virtue of their better back nine, host Shahriar Khodjasteh and James Bowering carded a net 69, -2 under par. The overall champions and the top three winning pairs in the regular May monthly open have secured the first three places in the sixth consecutive grand finals to be announced shortly.
Satnam Kaur won nearest the pin on the 5th hole with a wonderful iron shot to several feet. James Kachel won the longest drive for the day on the 12th hole. The lucky and very surprised raffle winner of the sought after Carpetland Rug was Ashok Kumar. High Bishop was drawn out the bowl to receive two dozen NXT tour golf balls and the lucky charity raffle winner was overall champion Sabine Freyburger.
Next month’s Carpetland Monthly Open is set for Saturday 11th June for a 13.30 shotgun start.
