DP World Tour Championship Birdie Pledge Continues Support of SNF Group in Dubai
A Dubai-based charity, Special Needs Families Group (SNFG), will again benefit from the support of the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai and the Tour Players Foundation.
Over the four rounds of The European Tour’s season finale at Jumeirah Golf Estates, the charity will received US$50 for every birdie, US$100 for every eagle and US$500 for every albatross made on the Earth course.
Judging by previous statistics, the tournament can expect 900-950 birdies and 30 eagles which, once matched, would result in SNFG receiving around US$50,000 via the Tour Players Foundation.
Having started as a support charity in 2003 when a group of families with special needs resolved to begin a new chapter in the lives of the region’s special needs individuals and give a sense of community for the special needs of their loved ones, the SNFG “family” now stands at more than 146 members.
Specialising in providing holistic support to young adults with special needs through personalised and professional care at their SNF Development Centre in the Karama area of Dubai, the SNFG has a long relationship with the Tour Players Foundation.
The TPF support of SNFG started in 2009, with a $50,000 donation through the TPF’s desire, as The European Tour’s charitable arm, to help children and young people in areas where European Tour events are held. Since then the group has received $175,000 in donations from the TPF with this year’s contribution set to bring the total to around $225,000.
SNFG founder Shafia Bari said: “The DP World Tour Championship, the Tour Players Foundation and The European Tour as a whole have shown great commitment to the cause of making a difference in the lives of young adults with special needs in Dubai.
“Their tireless support to SNF helps us in our quest to make a difference in their lives, so they can achieve as much independence as possible and be useful members of their family as well as the society in which they live.
“Having worked for a common goal – helping to integrate the differently abled into the mainstream – we hope to see this partnership reach greater heights in the future.”
In addition, over the years, there have been a number of visits to the SNF Development Centre by the European Tour Wives Association and members of the Tour Players Foundation Trustees Board, plus a number of visits to the championship by the SNFG.
At the 2012 DP World Tour Championship the children were hosted by the ETWA and TPF Trustees and given a tour of Jumeirah Golf Estates, where they participated in the putting competition in aid of the SNFG and enjoyed taking part in the daily trick shot demonstration on the driving range.
This year the SNFG children visited Jumierah Golf Estates once again to continue their friendship with the ETWA. They were hosted for a lunch followed by some golf-specific arts and crafts with the wives and some of the players.
