Dolan wins EGF Handicap scheme medal at Al Ain

Nancy Dolan turned in an impressive performance to win the Emirates Golf Federation’s Handicap Scheme Monthly Medal held at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club on Friday.

A relative newcomer to the game, Dolan carded a fabulous 41 points off her 40 handicap, beating Emma Tully on a countback in the ladies division to emerge overall winner of the competition which was organized by the Emirates Golf Federation to provide an opportunity to amateur golfers, who are not members of a club, to improve upon their handicaps.

Some brilliant scorers were recorded in men’s divisions as well. Playing off a decent six handicap, David Forbes shot a solid 76 to win the prestigious gross title while Gary Rigby emerged victorious in Division A, beating Bryan Banner and Leander De Wit on a countback after all three signed off with a net 71.

The competition was equally intense in Division B that followed the individual stableford format with full handicap allowance. Mark Silverton, who was playing off a 19 handicap, tallied a fantastic 43 points, to beat Alastair MacGregor and Tony Fargher by one point for the title.

Both MacGregor and Fargher shot an identical 42 points, but the former was declared runner-up on a countback.

Saeed Albudoor, general manager of the Emirates Golf Federation, congratulated the players for making the event a great success. “Scores were just too impressive in all the divisions and that reflect on the intensity of the competition,” he said.

“These monthly medals are part of our drive to create more playing opportunities for amateur golfers and we are grateful to different clubs in the UAE for offering special rates for the events.”
