Desai Impresses Over Faldo Course in Dubai

The Dubai Golf Summer Series returned yesterday with the first fixture contested over the Floodlit Faldo course with a strong field of 80 UAE amateur golfers taking part.

The first fixture sponsored by Ecco produced some fantastic scoring with Shloka Desai, from Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, the pick of the bunch with a superb 38 points off ¾ handicap allowance. Despite being away from the links for some time due to the demands of exams Desai compiled a consistent scorecard with the highlight being a birdie three on the 317-yard, seventh hole.

The closest contender to Desai was Emirates Golf Club’s Charlie Stricklin who signed for a 35-point tally, his one-under par finish on the tough closing five holes proved to be decisive. Despite the hot and humid conditions under the lights of the Faldo course Mark McCarthy from the Emirates Golf Federation claimed third place with 34 points and Jamie Webb from the Montgomerie Club matched his tally to clinch fourth place.

The other stand out performance on the night was that of Nasha Sarkari (Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club) who fired a gross 80 to take best gross of the night.

Also in the prizes, sponsored by Ecco, were Rabih Sfeila and Jeff Ogden for their efforts on the nearest the pin holes.
